BBC Working On Streaming Music Service Called Playlister

BBC is reportedly developing a streaming music service called Playlister to complement its iPlayer and allow users to listen to music. They're also talking with Spotify, Deezer and iTunes to be able to use their licensing platform to help gain legal access to the copyrights on the music. The Telegraph reported the news, saying that the music service was still in the works but little details were available, offering a loose timetable for launch possibly sometime over the next year. The stumbling point looks to be licensing the music (always the major detail) and getting a deal done. "Those services have already signed bulk rights deals with music labels, who opt in because they would prefer to make some money from the online streaming service rather than watch the shift to digital formats obliterate their sales altogether," said the story in The Telegraph.
