Just when you thought The Pirate Bay was down as a place for you to find new music, comes a Pirate Bay alternative -- and it's from the Pirate Bay itself. On a mission to "break the music industry," The Pirate Bay has spun their Promo Bay platform off into a full-blown dedicated web site.

Called The Promo Bay, it gives independent musicians the ability to promote themselves. It's not just limited to music, independent film makers, authors and artists can get in on the action too by going to The Promo Bay web site. They're accepting submissions, all you have to do is offer a link to free content to be inlcuded.

"A good idea, it turns out, because more than 10,000 artists signed up in a few months. This overwhelming success has now resulted in a dedicated Promo Bay site where all promotions will be permanently featured," says TorrentFreak.

The idea here is free promotion, so links to buy your goods don't count, it has to be free. People can buy in after they've checked you out for free. Here's the original word for The Promo Bay from their web site from earlier this year:

"THE PIRATE BAY PROMOTIONAL APPARATUS

Do you have a band? Are you an aspiring movie producer? A comedian? A cartoon artist? As you might have seen we sometimes replace our front page logo with others. Sometimes we link to important political issues like internet censorship and sometimes it's to some cool indie musicians we like.
We would now like to improve this feature. We want you to send us an email (below) and tell us what you have and where you would like it to be shown."
