Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has talked the talk on his new Atoms for Peace album, which is called Amok. It's arriving via XL Recordings in the US and there's even talk of an Atoms for Peace tour next year. A message from Thom reads "I'm still reeling from being on tour for much of the year but we are planning to get together and play etc next year ! We're figuring all that out right now. Atoms is a ongoing and open ended project, where it leads i know not for certain .... which is what is nice about it."
Thom does the vocals, keyboards, programming and guitars;
Nigel Godrich does production & programming; Joey Waronker is on drums; Mauro Refosco does percussion; and of course Flea is on the bass. Check out more at their newly revamped web site at www.atomsforpeace.info + watch five videos of an appearance by Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich iin LA from earlier this year.
Earlier this year, Thom summed up the Atoms for Peace vibe / approach by saying "We got a big buzz from them and discovered loads of energy from transforming the music from electronic to live, and so afterwards, we carried on for a few days in the studio and decided to make it a loose, on-going thing. Immersed in the area between the two…electronic and live."
Which makes complete sense, since he's bounced back and forth between Radiohead and an alter-ego as DJ over the past couple of years. It looks Atoms for Peace provides the kind of creative experimentation that bridges those two worlds, without being tied down to a long-established Radiohead identity.
