My Bloody Valentine have announced their first set of shows today, hopefully the first of a long string of My Bloody Valentine tour announcements. There's no word of of US or Canadian dates yet, but those in Japan, the UK and Australia can all start vying for a limited set of tickets for what amounts to eight My Bloody Valentine shows so far.

My Bloody Valentine are still promising to release their album independently via their web site before the end of this year, and there's an EP that will follow the full album. The tour news could be the beginning of a PR avalanche, and next week we'll hear about the new album. Hope, right?

"I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than 'Loveless'. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary," he told NME.

We've heard this before, and its becoming less a question of if and more a question of when. Kevin Shields spoke on this back in April, as well as September of last year, and many times before that. Let's hope it happens.
