With the passing of Trish Keegan, it's been a while since new music from Broadcast crossed our path, but now there's news of a whole new album of material arriving next week with the soundtrack for the film Berberian Sound Studio from Peter Strickland. The Broadcast album Berberian Sound Studio is available for streaming in its entirety courtesy of NPR Music. Broadcast really came into their own at the end of their career, starting out first with comparisons to Stereolab but later developing a freaked sound that was definitely of their own making. You'll find that sound alive and well on Berberian Sound Studio.
The video below looks to be cut from the film's opening credits, and features the Broadcast song “The Equestrian Vortex” from the soundtrack. The whole collection of songs is due out on Jan. 8 via Warp Records. "Initially conceived as the soundtrack to 'The Equestrian Vortex', the film-within-a-film around which Berberian Sound Studio unfolds, the soundtrack would eventually spill outwards to encapsulate the entire world Peter Strickland had created and populated with eccentric, magnetic characters," reads the blurb for the video.
