The resurgence of Redd Kross
sees the band hitting the global scene for their tour of their recent album Researching The Blues
, and this show finds them at the Primavera Club in Barcelona, Spain in September of last year. "No metal sluts or punk rock ruts" calls out the tagline from the Red Bull Music Academy, who offered up the show. They added "In 1978, said band was called The Tourists and Jeff was 15, Steve 11 years old. Schooled by sneaking into shows at the Roxy and Whisky A Go Go, they played their first gig opening for Black Flag at a middle school bash. By the time of their first full length release in 1981 they had changed their name to commemorate some scene from The Exorcist and already found a musical formula that applied the rabid energy of teenage hardcore to the very foundations of classic rock music."
As for Researching The Blues, the album sees the band retapping its roots to resurface everything that was great about Redd Kross. Spacelab writer Jeff Daily said this in his Researching The Blues album review: "The first thing I noticed about this album is how loud and GREAT the guitars sound. Fuzz galore and plenty of interlocking riffs start my hair a-growing and my butt a-shaking. It's the sound of ugly men banging their curly mops in front of a crowd of warm beer swilling youths. The B.O. is rising in my nostrils as the album plays on. I feel an uncontrollable urge to shout and dance and bang my damn head. I would leave the earplugs in at the festival, but for home listening I'll be cranking it up. Rattle them walls friends!!"
