*Spacelab Retrograde is a new feature from Spacelab that looks back in time at past releases on Thursday mornings. Look for more of this each Thursday as we roll through 2013.

Thieves ... thieves and liars! When Al Jourgensen turned his post-synth, post-new wave, post-Wax Trax experiment into a Texas-death-metal hybrid of epic proportions he stumbled onto the apocalypse ... and the forefront of a new industrial sound that was far in front of contemporaries Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails. Ministry paved the way for the cocktail hybrid of power tools and death metal in an industrial context. EDM freaks in diapers didn't know it yet ... but Al Jourgensen was writing the roadmap for their sample-heavy sound.

Bonus track: Jesus Built My Hot Rod: the maximum build up of this vibe. It never got better than this song.
