Sean Tillman a.k.a. Har Mar Superstar has always kept us guessing as to what his next musical move will be, now we get the next installment of Har Mar. It's tilted Bye Bye 17 and will be released on none other than Cult Records, the indie label started by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. “First time I saw Sean was at the Mercury Lounge years back, and I was blown away by his voice, his confidence and his showmanship,” Casablancas said about his first experience with Har Mar Superstar. The rest of the quote sounds a lot like a canned press release quote (even coming from the honorable Mr. Casablancas), so we'll just skip over that.
As for insights into the release, Tillman offers this: “I was listening to a lot of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke at the time, and I’ve always been obsessed with those guys…'Restless Leg,' 'We Don’t Sleep,' 'Prisoner' and 'Rhythm Bruises' came out of people playing together. But the rest were just like me in a room, gettin’ weird, by myself.”
