Freshly signed to Merge Records, Mikal Cronin will release his debut album MCII for the lable (and sophomore release overall) on May 7 in the U.S and May 13 in Europe. Mikal Cronin is definitely for people who like the indie pop of Matthew Sweet or The Lemonheads channeled through a Beaster-lite version of Bob Mould. Check out the MP3 of the song “Shout it Out” below.
“Since the first record came out, my life has changed quite a bit. I was presented with a whole new slew of problems and situations that I was trying to work through,” said Cronin, now located in San Francisco after a move to the city from Los Angeles. The new album MCII includes an appearance from Ty Segall on the songs “Am I Wrong” and “I’m Done Running from You.”
“It all makes total sense to me, but when I step back, it sounds kind of schizophrenic. Hopefully it all sounds enough like me to make sense,” he said.
