Sascha Ring a.k.a. Apparat was selected by Sebastian Hartmann to do a score -- Hartmann is doing a theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace as commissioned by the German arts festival Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen. The whole collection is called “Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre)” and arrives via Mute Records on Feb 18/19, and is streaming right now in advance of the release.

Sascha collected a 30-piece ensemble in an old abandoned factory (where all of the best artistic collaborations happen, of course) in Germany and they created the music that goes with the theatre piece.

“This is anything but conventional theatre. It’s a free space, where a bunch of freaks can go wild. It starts with the lights and stops with the actual actors. At night, we worked on the music in the empty hall. It was kind of magical,” said Ring about the experience.
