Video killed the radio, says the new YouTube music video channel Potato from Skrillex, A-Track and Diplo. They're launching it live today at 4PM EST, and they've even dedicated a Twitter hashtag with #POTATOWillEatYou. They're promising video premieres, audio premieres, DJ mixes, alongside shows like Blow Your Head, Cosmo's Crates, Short Cuts, Listen Up! with Ralph Moore and more.
This sort of thing seems like it will happen more in the online world this year, with 2013 being the "year of curation" in favor of the left-behind strategy of social media recommendations that fell flat for the likes of Facebook and streaming music sites like Spotify.
It turns out that people weren't that interested in other people guilty pleasures, says Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine. With the advent of the online video channels that YouTube provides, the capability is out there for people to go start something on their own.
