Southern California can be both a literal and figurative hotbed of musical finds, and we can count Afro-Cuban band QuitaPenas
in both categories. Check out the video of their recent performance at White Iris Studios playing the song "Que Te Pasa." The nine person collective hails from the Inland Empire neighborhoods, and their sound is casual and fun, but also tight and the song is spectacular.
The press release sets the tone for how White Iris producer Lewis Pesacov dicovered the band: "It was a concert in LA's Macarthur Park that brought QUITAPENAS to the attention of White Iris producer Lewis Pesacov. They were opening for his band Fool's Gold. It was a warm summer night, and their infectious fusion of Afro-Cuban and Cumbia influences had people dancing in the grass from the start. What further caught Pesacov's ear was that they never stopped playing: continuing side stage after the concert was over and later on that night at the raucous after-party."
The Mas Tropical / Que Te Pasa single from QuitaPenas is available now from White Iris Records. Bonus Free download at Bandcamp.
