Smith Westerns have a new video for the song “Varsity” from their upcoming album Soft Will, which arrives on on June 11th via Mom + Pop. The band worked with producer Chris Coady on what they hope will outdo their spectacular sophmore album Dye It Blonde. Smith Westerns went to Chris Coady's Sonic Ranch recording Studio in El Paso before moving to New York's DNA Studio to do the final mixdown. Check out video of the band performing at Lollapalooza.
The video was directed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz, who said "I wanted to make a non narrative video clip about young love without showing the usual conventions of going on dates or hanging out at the mall. We studied this couple as they would study themselves and each other in their dreams, and used abstractly sexual imagery to give it a hallucinogenic and hazy atmosphere.”
