|Trent Reznor talks on the new Nine Inch Nails album Hesitation Marks, Adrian Belew's departure, new NIN songs from the upcoming LP and discusses EVERYTHING with a new Kevin & Bean interview from the Los Angeles CBS Radio station Modern Rock KROQ. He tells of the new Nine Inch Nails video with David Lynch and everything that made him do a new NIN album so quickly after taking a Nine Inch Nails break.
Trent Reznor on the approach to Hesitation Marks: "It’s felt like a wrench in the works at times, but at the same time it’s made me rethink a lot of how we put this together, and I think where we’re ending up at is a place that’s much truer to what Nine Inch Nails should be… and better in the long run."
Trent Reznor on the departure of Adrian Belew and Eric Avery and where the current NIN lineup is at: "you can spend a lot of time hypothesizing, imagining and projecting what it's gonna be with this chemistry and this recipe of people in a room playing music, and in reality it rarely is that."
Reznor also said the video for the song "Come Back Haunted" should arrive sometime this week, and it's being created by the famed director mastermind David Lynch, adding that it should be "weird" and "bizarre." And probably awesome.
The new Nine Inch Nails album is called Hesitation Marks, it has a release date of Sept. 3rd on Columbia Records. There's also the new NIN song "Came Back Haunted" and a whole bunch of new Nine Inch Nails tour dates. "I’ve always enjoyed the idea of presenting the band in an interesting way and paying attention to the production and stage design. It frames the music. And if you’re paying to come see a show, I think you should be taken to a different place. It should be an experience not just for your ears, but it envelopes you," said Trent in the KROQ interview.
As far as the song "Came Back Haunted," it's a nice reboot. The new Nine Inch Nails sounds reinvigorated after a break for Trent Reznor with movie soundtracks and how to destroy angels_. There's a nice mix of keyboards with a steadily progressing rhythm, building up the anxiety before kicking it over the top. Check it out below:
The NIN tour includes Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Explosions In The Sky as opening acts and promises to be one of the best of the year. Festival stops include Fuji Rock Festival, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Pukkelpop, Leeds Festival and the Reading Festival.
