The story starts in 2001 at Plant Bar in Manhattan, with James Murphy, Tim Goldsworthy and Jonathan Galkin. Find out how they started by making music and moved to releasing the music of friends like The Rapture, Sinkane, Yacht, The Juan Maclean, Holy Ghost, Murphy's own LCD Soundsystem and more.

Like so many sprawling music scenes, it was a sort of collective that became big enough to be a force of its own. It also combined two opposing forces that really didn't overlap previous to DFA Records: indie rock and dance music. Let the tension begin. Narrated by WTF podcast host Marc Maron.

This is the first of a series in which Red Bull Music Academy and m ss ng p eces from Brooklyn that documents "fresh and iconic music stories and characters."

Bonus track: the song that ended up being the definitive track of the entire scene: Losing My Edge by LCD Soundsystem.
