To anyone waiting for the new Arcade Fire album ... your day has arrived. The release date for the new album is Oct. 29 according the Arcade Fire Twitter. The band responded to a fan who said that Arcade Fire was his favorite, and they replied “@fifferwright Thanks. Our new album will be out October 29th.” They’re also now officially talking about it on their website. This of course will set into motion all sorts of events for the next two years, including an Arcade Fire tour with shows all over the planet ... I can’t imagine it being anything less than a two-year cycle from start to finish. Revolt Magazine recently dropped word that one of the new Arcade Fire songs would arrive on Sept. 9.
So the music world gets to obsess over the new Arcade Fire songs and lyrics for the rest of the year, and the release of their last album The Suburbs was predated with all sorts of band-approved song leaks. Arcade Fire worked with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records) as producer, and James recently said “I’m too in the middle of it to know which way it will go in the end. But it’s going to be a fantastic record” at a session at the Red Bull Music Academy. Watch the full appearance here.
Markus Dravs has been working on the recording, and the band didn’t use the church they’ve used in the past to record their last two albums. That building has structural damage, so the band moved on and recorded in places like New York and other unknown cities.
There’s no word yet on how the Arcade Fire tour dates will unfold, but we can look forward to a long string of smaller Arcade Fire shows in mid-sized theaters as well as full blown concerts, and a bunch of music festivals.
The Arcade Fire albums that are most notorious are The Suburbs, Neon Bible and Funeral. One of their most popular songs is “Wake Up,” which the band played a notorious version at Coachella in 2011 while releasing electronic light-up beach balls in collaboration with The Creators Project.
