Mikal Cronin was on Conan O’Brien last night, performing the song “Change” for the Team Coco crowd. Now with Merge Records, Mikal Cronin released his debut album MCII for the label (and sophomore release overall) earlier this year.
Mikal Cronin is definitely for people who like the indie pop of Matthew Sweet or The Lemonheads channeled through a Beaster-lite version of Bob Mould. Check out the MP3 of the song “Shout it Out” below, the song “Weight” here, or at the Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend.
“Since the first record came out, my life has changed quite a bit. I was presented with a whole new slew of problems and situations that I was trying to work through,” said Cronin, now located in San Francisco after a move to the city from Los Angeles. The new album MCII includes an appearance from Ty Segall on the songs “Am I Wrong” and “I’m Done Running from You.”
“It all makes total sense to me, but when I step back, it sounds kind of schizophrenic. Hopefully it all sounds enough like me to make sense,” he said.
