Odeo went on to become Twitter, iLike was bought by Apple and is likely to be powering the iTunes Radio that will arrive this Fall, iMeem is gone, Last FM is alive and well, Insound is alive bought never talked about by the tech music media anymore, BitTorrent is reemerging and Slacker Radio is thriving. The infographic arrives from Peter Kafka at AllThingsD, and was created by Groupon Design Director Jadam Kahn. It brings to light the live-by-the-sword, die-by-the-sword vibe of music tech. One day a group is flying high, the next they're bought out, bankrupt or living on.
“Anyone who’s considering starting, joining or funding a music startup today should be legally required to stare at this deadpool for at least a day. And then they should be required to speak to someone who used to work in digital music. Because everyone I know who has tried it — and doesn’t work for Apple, Amazon or Google — vows to never, ever return,” said Kafka about the current state of the state.
