In the post-Sonic Youth world, Lee Ranaldo has emerged on a solo path of his own, with the album Between the Times and the Tides and now the new Night on Earth. The album is due out on Matador Records on Oct. 8. Check out the lead song "Leece, Leaving" below.
There's an almost country twang to the song. Lee is a lucky musician, he has a long history behind him and has proven his bona fides repeatedly, so now he's in a time and space where he has the freedom to write whatever he wants, and has enough support and a fan base that follows him. Every musician should be there.
The press release from Matador goes into more detail: "while certainly darker in tone & lyrical content than its immediate predecessor, is the sort of dizzying electric guitar clinic that ranks amongst the best from any era. After an exhaustive stretch of domestic and international touring (with more to come — see below) Lee & The Dust have formed a powerhouse unit, and we’re confident the results of these Echo Canyon West sessions will impress & inspire for months to come, if not far longer."
