Spotify wants in on the idea behind the Apple Airplay app, so they've created their own technology called Spotify Connect. It's a way of using Spotify as a platform for connecting your smart phones and tablet computers to your home stereo speakers, seamlessly. The idea is to effortlessly connect everything in your home around Spotify.

To do this, they've worked with the speaker companies themselves, to install Spotify Connect straight into the speakers themselves. So far: Argon, Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Hama, Marantz, Philips, Pioneer, Revo, Teufel and Yamaha are all in with more on the way.

They'll start as mobile apps for the iPhone and iPad, before offering an Android app and desktop app for your home computer or laptop computer.

“Today, listening to music at home can be a frustrating experience – dropouts, below-par audio quality, signal range and phone restrictions, battery drainage, it’s basically a hassle. Spotify Connect solves this by giving you effortless control of your music across your phone, tablet and now speakers with millions of songs built right in,” said Sten Garmark, VP Product Management at Spotify.
