The Pixies launched their tour with a surprise show at The Echo over the weekend, which gave way to comparisons of the new bassist Kim Shattuck, who is replacing original bassist Kim Deal. Talk about a high-pressure gig ... one of the most influential bassists from one of the most influential bands of the alt-rock 90s is out and YOU'LL be the one to take over.

According the LA Times Pop & Hiss blog: "Is it heresy to suggest that the blindfolded wouldn't have known the difference?" and "I'm a Deal fan, after all. I worried, for example, that the new Kim would sing the original Kim's parts in "Gigantic."" It turns out they didn't play Gigantic, but they did play new music. CoS points out that new songs “Blue Eyed Hexe” and “Greens and Blues.” Check it out in the video below, the third video download is a complete playlist of videos from Kimball Shirley, who was at the show and has great HD footage.

The new Pixies EP is out now.
