Mazzy Star have a new album coming out next week, it's called Seasons of Your Day and is the first new full length album since Among My Swan in 1996. The release date is Sept. 24, and you can catch the full album stream this week via NPR Music.
To answer the question everyone will ask with the long gap in new music between then and now: is it as good as their past music? I'm a few songs in at this point and I can say the magic is definitely there.
NPR Music talks about the band actually being better than before: "Sandoval's singing has become much more interesting since those early days — her phrasing more nuanced, less somnambulant, no longer so smothered in reverb. David Roback, Mazzy Star's other central figure, is playing more acoustic guitar alongside his signature summer-of-love electric, and there's a strong English folk and blues flavor on Seasons that recalls albums by , the singer's project of the past decade."
