Rdio Is Starting A Free Music Service

In more news from Rdio, it looks like they are about to announce an ad-supported free service for streaming music, to complement the paid services that Rdio already offers.

"On Monday, Cumulus Media, which operates 525 radio stations, will announce a deal with Rdio, a subscription music service from the founders of Skype, that will give Cumulus an online outlet and help Rdio compete against more established players like Spotify," writes the NYT inadvance of the bigger announcement.

This is a move that's ironic, because Rdio (like all streaming media services) would like to encourage its users to upgrade to its paid premium service. If that happens, Rdio users won't be hearing any of the Cumulus Media ads anymore. So Cumulus could be motivating a large group of Rdio users to stay away from their paid ads.

Does anybody use Rdio? Do you use the paid service, or are you using the limited trial, or did you stop when your free trial was over?
