It's a day for British reissues, apparently. John Lydon might be known more for the Sex Pistols persona Johnny Rotten than his PiL (Public Image Ltd) project, although PiL had a longer time of existence. To celebrate 40 years of Virgin Records, the PiL releases Album, a 7' of the song "This is Not a Love Song" and a 12" of "Rise"and "Warrior." They're all spaced about a week apart and start with Album on 180gram vinyl picture-disc on Oct. 21.
The lead off reissue proves to be the juiciest, as The Vinyl Factory talks of the scene at the time: "Although the packaging for Album was self-consciously generic (it was also titled Cassette and Compact Disc depending on your format of choice) the line-up in Lydon’s ever-changing outfit was anything but, pulling together collaborations with Afrika Bambaataa’s band Time Zone, his producer Bill Laswell, virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai and an engine room featuring Miles Davis’ drummer Tony Williams and Ginger Baker."
