Get global with Dabke-Folk beatmaker Omar Souleyman and his new album Wenu Wenu. He’s giving the world a taste of the good things Syria has to offer, outside of the taint of the Syrian conflict. He takes an approach similar to what Cornershop does -- take a music style from one part of the world and match it with western beats like what you've found in the US and Europe. What you get is something authentically from his roots and remixed with a more international appeal. It's a great listen, and Wenu Wenu is streaming right now as a full album stream at NPR Music.
"If you listen to only 90 seconds of music this year, make them the ones between 1:14 and 2:44 in "Ya Yumma," in which a keyboard solo screams across the sky in ways that need to be heard to be believed," said NPR Music about the album's opening song.
