Polyvinyl Records is launching a new singles series next year, that will encourage well-known artists to create a free-for-all recording of any two songs to an old-school 4-track cassette tape. The songs will then get pressed to 7" vinyl and shipped out to subscribers.
It's called the Polyvinyl 4-Track Singles Series, and it's available to a limited audience of 500 people, with downloads included. Retro vinyl gets matched with digital downloads.
"The idea is simple: send a musician a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder and have them record two songs to tape before mailing it to the next musician to do the same. From new tracks to cover songs, or even altered versions of older material, anything was fair game," reads the game plan from Polyvinyl.
So far, there's some great artists onboard, including John Vanderslice, Efterklang, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Mikal Cronin and more. Check out the full list and get more information at the Polyvinyl website.
