Wow, Black Prarie gets their groove on for their new album Fortune. The music is big time right from the get-go, mixing indie-folk with a type of energy usually reserved for indie rock or alternative. Their talking indie folk into overdrive, giving a genre that too often falls into a pale, staccato and traditional folksie rut and breathing life into it. Listen to the new song “Let It Out” over at Paste, you'll be convinced almost from the time you hit play.
Black Prairie is side-project from members of The Decemberists, giving them a chance to jam outside of the confines of their "day job" and try on new influences. The new Black Prarie album has a release date of Apr. 22 on Sugar Hill Records. It's the band's third full-length.
“Making this record was the most collaborative and magical thing. I’m excited to play these songs live,” said Chris Funk. “We’re a much more fearless writing team now,” added bassist Nate Query.
