Cibo Matto are releasing their album Hotel Valentine next week, and the album is available to stream in full this week from NPR Music. Also along for this album are Nels Cline, Glenn Kotsche, Mauro Refosco, Reggie Watts, Michael Leonhart, Aaron Johnson and Douglas Wieselman.
The concept for the album centers around "a love story amid the ghosts traversing the hallways of a hotel," and will be released on Feb. 14 via Chimera Music (a label operated by Yuka Honda, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl).
NPR Music calls the album a conceptual art piece, although the favorite Cibo Matto topic of food enters the pantheon similiar to their album Viva! La Woman: "Though inventive in sound and frequently light in tone, it runs deeper conceptually, as Honda and Hatori build a collection of songs around the nebulous idea of a haunted hotel, complete with a "10th Floor Ghost Girl." Food isn't entirely absent from these strange and colorful songs — which the duo performs with the aid of everyone from Nels Cline to Reggie Watts — but the creative palette is bigger and bolder, if not always brighter."
