For the collective of fans that stay dedicated to Animal Collective: an entire new full-length album is coming from Panda Bear. It's titled Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, and although details are scarce right now, we do know that Tomboy producer Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3) is at the helm for this one too and the album has an unspecified release date sometime this year. Domino Records has announced that the album is currently being worked by Panda Bear a.k.a. Noah Lennox right now.
in the meantime, you can check him out (and probably some of the new music) at this year's Austin Psych Fest and the Sasquatch Music Festival (weekend one) -- the only other dates scheduled right now are in Nantes, France and Kiso Mura, Japan.
“I definitely feel like it's going to be quite a bit different from the last one. In some ways, it seems a bit more linked to two albums ago [Person Pitch] than the last one [Tomboy]. But that could be because there's a lot of samples and sampling involved in the process of making the songs, although different samplers, and I made a lot of sounds for the samples myself, rather than taking little samples of other people's music,” said Noah Lennox in an interview with Under The Radar.
He went on to say that there's a straightforward approach to the sound aesthetic: It's pretty simple. The drum stuff, I feel, is a real focal point of the music. It's heavier and break-centric music. There are a lot of breaks.
