All Tomorrow's Parties has announced a new festival for 2011 named "I'll Be Your Mirror," a festival set to rotate locations. The first incarnation will be in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011. It will eventually take place in cities worldwide and that includes a U.K. version on July 23 - 24 at Alexandra Palace in London. So far we've learned the Tokyo version will be headlined by Godspeed You! Black Emporer.
ATP's I'll Be Your Mirror takes cues on its name from the song of the same name by the Velvet Underground, which not-so-coincidentally is the flip-side of the song "All Tomorrow's Parties."
All Tomorrow's Parties was started in
1999 by London concert Promoters Barry
Hogan and Helen Cottage as a deviation
from the corporate festivals of the day.
What makes ATP unique is that rather
than hiring a music industry person to
book the bands, Barry and Helen find a
musician, artist, or writer to 'curate'
the festival - treating it more like an
experience than a business venture.
Curators then create the entire festival
programming bands, DJ sets and
a television channel. Check out the information
below to see which band or artist is curating
which show and when they happen.
Past curators have included Thurston
Moore of Sonic Youth, Mogwai, Tortoise,
Shellac, Autechre, Modest Mouse, Pitchfork Media and the Breeders.
Tickets are no longer on sale.
