The bands have been announced, and the Lollapalooza
lineup is set to be a good one with names
like the Pixies, the Arcade
Fire, M83, Death
Cab For Cutie and the reformed Dinosaur
Jr.. Even Anton Newcombe's Brian
Jonestown Massacre is on the bill alongside
cohorts the Dandy Warhols.
Lollapalooza is using a new format, as a two-day
concert set to take place in Chicago on July
23 and 24. The festival grounds will be located in
Grant Park, which is inside the downtown area
of the city. Festival organizers are promising the
city skyline of the city as a backdrop for the show,
so it's about as downtown as downtown can get.
So here's the story for 2005 - one show, for two
days, with lots of after-show events happening around
the city. 70 bands will perform on five stages, with
the concert itself taking place at Grant Park.
Lollapalooza organizers (which, by most accounts,
still include Perry Farrell) have given up
on the notion of a traveling festival after last years
meltdown, causing the cancellation of the tour. It
seems that the cost of the festival in past years
had grown so large, that there wasn't enough money
left over after the bills were paid to satisfy Lollapalooza
investors.
TICKETS
Starting on Tuesday, April 7, two-day passes will
be sold for only $35, though they will be available
for just a week, or until supplies run out. More information
is promised to be revealed on the site in the coming
weeks.
